Bloodshed continues as observers visit protest hubs

December 29, Arab League monitors were dispatched to three more Syrian hotspots Thursday to ensure government forces were complying with a peace plan. This comes a day after the team was met by crowds of anti-government protesters in the city of Homs.

ICC witnesses can apply for asylum, says court

December 29, An Amsterdam court has ruled that three witnesses from the Democratic Republic of Congo appearing at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague must be given the right to apply for refugee status in the Netherlands.

China trial of veteran activist Ni Yulan begins

December 29, A former lawyer and veteran activist left disabled by police mistreatment has gone on trial in Beijing, the third dissident in a week to be prosecuted as China continues its crackdown to deter popular uprisings like the ones that shook the Arab world.

Egypt: Prosecute Sexual Assaults on Protesters

21 December , There is an escalating pattern of physical attacks by Egyptian military and police officers against women and male protesters, journalists, and activists in Cairo, some of which are sexual in nature, Human Rights Watch said today. News reports and images of protestors in Cairo being stripped, beaten, and dragged through the street in the past several days are just the latest incidents.

No Immunity for Sitting Presidents, ICC Rules
